Seniors' Sweetheart Dance - The York Jaycees will participate in a Seniors Dance at Colonial Manor Care Center. We will hold this event in February to tie in with Valentine's Day or later in the spring with a prom theme. The committee will make this decision. Colonial Manor will provide music, food, beverages, and Polaroid film for pictures. We will provide corsages, decorations, and frames for the pictures. The Jaycees will arrive early and stay afterwards to help the residents to and from their rooms, as well as assist with set-up and clean up. Jaycees are asked to dress in semi-formal wear, and are encouraged to bring their children to this event.
Angels of the Park - The York Jaycees adopted Bantz Park to beautify and maintain. Planting and clean up for the spring and the fall will be two main areas of involvement. The committee will meet throughout the year, and will decide all planned activities.
Feeding York - York Helping Hands - Jaycees will work with York's Helping Hands to provide hot meals and bagged lunches to needy community members. We will contribute funds toward the food runs, and will request donations from area merchants to offset as much of the cost as possible.
Financial Contributions - This project is a significant component of the culmination of the York Jaycees fundraising efforts. A committee oversees the application process: review, summary, presentation to membership for voting and final tally of voting outcome. Applications for financial grants are received, then voted upon by the membership. The York Jaycees intends to award direct financial contributions each year. Agencies that receive staffing assistance from the York Jaycees during the year are removed from the application process.
Financial Contribution Volunteer Commitment
Hide-the-Line - The York Jaycees will raise funds throughout the holiday season by placing donation cans at local businesses. The committee will determine other fundraising plans. We will work with local organizations to choose deserving families to participate. The Jaycees will then take each child from each family shopping for clothing and other winter items. Parents are invited to assist with the shopping. After the shopping, there will be a holiday breakfast for the families and Jaycees. Santa will make an appearance and give each child a new toy. Each family will receive a gift basket filled with non-perishable items for the holiday. Solicitation and shopping have occurred at the East York K-Mart.
Oysterfest - Every year, the York Jaycees help staff an event that benefits the York County Heritage Trust (YCHT). Jaycees will staff an event that benefits the YCHT. This is their largest fundraiser of the year and helps to cover their annual operating costs. Approximately 30 Jaycees are needed to help serve food and beverages as well as assist in the set-up and clean up of this event. The Oyster-fest is traditionally held on the 3rd Sunday each October.
Junior Miss Scholarship - One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded annually to a Pennsylvania Junior Miss in June. This program was founded by the Jaycees in the late 1920s as part of an annual spring floral program that encouraged community participation in various city beautification projects. The program was incorporated into a national scholarship program in 1957. The scholarship has been awarded in both the 'Spirit' and 'Be Your Best Self' categories. We look for dedication to community service in the applicants.
Tom Glock Scholarship Award (Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference) - In memory of past Jaycee, Tom Glock, the York Jaycees will provide $500 toward a scholarship award. Each year Tom's mother, Mrs. Sally Glock, matches our donation. The scholarship award will help local high school students attend the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY).
